The Meaning of Life After 50

How can we find meaning to life? Is the purpose in life in the 50s, 60s, or 70s the same as when we are 20? For some the answer is…maybe. But for others, chances are it probably changed a lot in the last years. It really depends on what we consider to have meaning and be true in life for us.

Psychiatrist Viktor Frankl talked about the importance of finding meaning and purpose in life to be psychologically healthy. He also talked about the connection between love and meaning and how love is “the only way to grasp another human being in the innermost core of his personality.” But perhaps one of his most powerful messages is when he said that “those who have nothing to live for die quicker.”

Discovering a true purpose might be an excellent way to find meaning in life. One question every person should ask is…am I really happy in life? If the answer is yes, you have probably already found meaning in life. If you are not, maybe it’s time to examine and analyze what is keeping you from enjoying life.

Regardless of your age, if you always wanted to do something, whether it is to learn how to dance, go to college, or even learn another language, do not let anything stand in your way. What for some people may be meaningless for you that might be the true reason for living. Living close to loved ones – such as children, grandchildren, or siblings – can give you a sense of belonging and consequently a reason to live.
